Two-piece day dress, Nice, France, circa 1870-1875. Light green cotton/wool with beige pleated silk trim. Bodice lined with cotton, closes with fabric covered buttons. Skirt with pleats in back, hem reinforced with cotton and woolen band, closes with hooks and eyes at waist. Via Mode Museum, Antwerp.
Dress, Paris, ca. 1875. Silk satin, velvet, pearl, tulle. Bodice rectangular in front, V-shaped in back, with ruffles and weights. Elbow-length sleeves, front bodice, & neckline embroidered with beads on tulle base—white shell motifs with black contour & yellow fringe. Four-part skirt: petticoat of dark red calico w/satin stripes, satin skirt, velvet drapery covering hips (ruffled at sides), and bustle of striped velvet, ruffled in zig-zag lines.
