Irena Sendler. 1910-2008 A 98 year-old Polish woman named Irena Sendler recently died. During WWII, Irena worked in the Warsaw Ghetto as a plumbing/sewer specialist. Irena smuggled Jewish children out; infants in the bottom of the tool box she carried and older children in a burlap sack she carried in the back of her truck. The infant garden - A CBC Radio documentary - On Mountain view cemetery a special garden was created where - until 1972 - 11,000 babies were buried in mass graves without markers. The thinking was that these babies were best forgotten. As word got out about the infant garden, the mothers and fathers - gray haired men and women leaning on canes, started to come to the cemetery to find their babies who had died decades ago and have never been forgotten.
