CASTLES OF SPAIN - Antequera. (Málaga). The Arab invasion of the Iberian peninsula began in 711 under Tariq ibn-Ziyad. Antequera was conquered around 716, becoming part of the Umayyad Caliphate under the name "Medina Antaquira". On 16 September 1410, an army led by Prince Ferdinand of Aragon conquered the city. Ferdinand thereafter added the style "lord of Antequera" to his titles. The city's main street still carries his name.
