'Equestrian Portrait of the Duke of Lerma' - Author Rubens, Peter Paul - Procedence Acquisition, 1969 -- Felipe III's favorite, Francisco de Sandoval y Rojas, Marquis of Denia and First Duke of Lerma is shown as chief of the Spanish Armies.   Rubens created here a model for equestrian portraits that would prove very influential later on, especially in works by Van Dyck and Gaspar de Crayer.

'Saint Catherine of Alexandria' - Author: Yáñez de Almedina, Fernando - Procedence: Acquisition, 1946  -- Yáñez depicts the martyr wearing sumptuous clothing indicative of her high birth. She steps on the wheel and holds the sword with which she was martyred. The crown on the low wall in the background alludes to her royal blood and the book recalls the wisdom and eloquence. The palm leaf lying on the book symbolizes her martyrdom.

Born in 1629 and died in 1646, all hopes for the dynasty were dashed by his early death.
