Mars Ultor. Relevo inspirado pola imaxe do "Marte vingador" que presidía o templo do Foro de Augusto. 23.4.2011: This head was chiselled out of a relief and is inspired by the image of Mars Ultor in the temple of Mars i the forum of Augustus. It was made in the 2nd cent. AD and the bust with the head of Medusa was added in the 16th century. From the Cesi collection in the Ludovisi collection, Museo Nazionale Romano, Palazzo Altemps, Rome.

Templo de Marte Ultor

Formaba parte del foro de Augusto y se construyó para conmemorar la victoria de Augusto en Filipos en el año 42 a.C. Está dedicado a Marte Ultor (Marte Vengador) y era uno de los edificios más hermosos de su época.

Reconstrución do Templo de Mars Ultor. Este templo era o edificio principal do Foro de Augusto. A decisión de construílo foi tomada por Augusto cun voto feito a Marte no ano 42 a.C. na véspera da batalla de Filipos contra Bruto e Casio, asasinos de César, de ahí o seu epíteto Ultor, "Vingador". Construído en mármore de Carrara tiña 8 columnas na fachada e outras tantas nos laterais.
