When trying to get students excited about reading, you can't just force them to read! You have to offer the students experiences to engage with the text, the characters, and the settings! I like to have my students write letters to a character in a book. For The City of Ember, my students wrote letters to the mayor explaining if they wanted their assigned job or not! The students loved this activity!!! Literacy, Writing Classes, Interactive Reading Journals, Writing Lessons, Student Writing, Teaching Writing, Teacher Lesson Planner, Kindergarten Writing, Common Core Curriculum

The City of Ember - Complete Unit with Questions and Activities
Something about the amber lights I saw in my head for the lighting throughout this book made me remember the intensity of playing around after dark in the far corners of shopping parking lots. I don't care for the following books, but this first book in the series was amazing. Novels, Science Fiction, Middle School Ela, Reading, Films, City Of Ember Book, Novel Studies, Fiction, Book Worth Reading
